edible mud food grade bentonite clay

Edible what?! That’s right – edible mud!! You’ve probably already noticed my obsession with mud masks already and I’m moving onto edible mud it seems.

Why?! Let’s start of by clarifying – it’s a specific type of food grade bentonite clay I’m referring too, not recommending you wander into the garden and start shovelling in mouthfuls of dirt. Just as clay is a great detoxifier from the outside for your skin, it also works wonders on the inside too. Bentonite clay has a powerful negative charge which, when hydrated, helps to absorb the positive charge found in toxins and then bind to them to extract and help flush out from the body.

Benefits of Edible MUD include:

  • Excellent detoxifier
  • Absorbs heavy metals and other toxins in the gut
  • Balances bacteria in the digestive tract
  • Assists with symptoms linked to IBS
  • Aids digestive issues

Plus it’s also a great source of magnesium and iron AND 100% natural, cruelty free and vegan!

As with anything in powdered form, it’s super easy to mix and blend into meals and so I’ve decided to add into my morning smoothie – which is also normally upgraded with various other powders including maca! While digesting mud doesn’t seem that appealing, it doesn’t have an especially strong smell and I couldn’t taste at all once it was blended in. It comes with a serving scoop too (5g) and so with the 70g packet that’s 14 serves.

Finally, to be clear I’m not a fan of any detox programs or specific “detox” supplements or drinks (no 21 day juice cleansers here please) as the body generally regulates this fairly well, HOWEVER I am a fan of trying any natural product which can aid this process and the digestive system, while still also following a normal and balanced diet.
