While I may have turned 30 last year, my skin seems to have missed this memo and has still been continuing it’s teen years with regular acne breakouts and oilyness (the joys). So reaching breaking point recently (or breaking-out point) I decided to try and find a good foundation for oily skin.

Enter Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation, which was recommended to me by a makeup artist. I’d seen great reviews of this foundation when it launched, but thought it was more to do with the extensive shade range (40 shades!) rather than the actual foundation itself. I’m always hesitant to try new foundations as it’s a huge waste of money if they’re not right, but having tried the Fenty Beauty Match Stix recently, and liking them, I was open to giving this foundation a try.

I actually just purchased this online from Sephora, which seems like it would be a huge risk, but they had an amazing shade matching tool for this product – I was super impressed! You can enter in your current foundation(s) you use and it will suggest your Fenty beauty foundation shade match. What it suggested did seem like it would be a little dark, but I googled some shade swatches to check. I actually use two foundations anyway- one lighter and one quite a few shades darker, which I either mix or use separately depending on how tanned I am.

The foundation

It’s described as a soft matte, longwear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage and “the ultimate photo filter in foundation form”. It promises to give an instantly smooth, pore-diffused and shine free finish which is also resistant to sweat and humidity (perfect for a regular gym goer like me) and won’t clog pores. It’s also 100% cruelty free

The verdict

Basically, it was love at first pump! The consistency was quite runny (compared to the thickness of the one I currently use), but not at all light on pigment and coverage. It dries pretty quickly, but blends in super well for an honestly amazing finish.

It lasts really well too, and I’ve found already it’s helped my skin to not get as oily and breakout as much as it was previously.

This foundation is definitely a win for me, and one I’ve already been recommending to friends and family – I LOVE it! I think it would be best for people with oily and acne prone skin like me, but it’s not super drying (like it suggests, it really is a soft matte finish), so I think it should be fine for people with other skin types too.

HIGHLY recommend giving this product a try!
